14 Day Custom Sea of Cortez Trip
Ultra-Limited Load November 10-23 2008
This trip departs from Ensenada and arrives in Loreto.
For ocean minded Baja enthusiasts that like to fish, scuba dive, freedive, and surf in remote areas, this trip is custom built for you! After the outstanding success of a private charter last year we've decided to make this an annual event!
"This highly specialized trip is without a doubt,
the most diverse and comprehensive ocean adventure
available on Baja's west coast."
Departing from Ensenada and ending in Loreto the one-way format of this trip gives us the time to intimately explore remote areas of the Baja coast as well as offshore destinations. Passengers will have the option of fishing, diving or whatever else comes to mind at each location assuming conditions permit.
Islander's itinerary will include:
Pristine Islands:
Cedros and Benitos is where fisherman and divers will have a shot at trophy Yellowtail, White Seabass and Halibut. Not to mention some of the best scuba and freediving on the entire Baja peninsula.
Coastal Pinnacles:
Fishing for Yellowtail in these areas is some of the best in the world.
Those opting to get wet may witness Yellowtail schools so large, it's difficult to see anything past the solid walls of fish. Locations like these give divers a glimpse of unexploited underwater ecosystems with Abalone and Lobster in such volume that it's staggering! Shellfish capture is not allowed in Mexico but photographers will have plenty of opportunity to 'shoot' some huge lobster!
Deep Offshore Reefs:
Fisherman and blue water freedivers can expect Wahoo, Marlin, Dorado, Tuna, Yellowtail and Grouper at these locations. Scuba divers will find deep reefs in an oceanic environment with visibility often exceeding 100ft. Walls and pinnacles here drop to such depths that it's impossible to reach the bottom on conventional scuba.
Vast Mangrove Systems:
Magdalena Bay will be our destination for inshore exotics such as Black Snook and Pargo. Local guides will take passengers for
a day of inshore panga fishing that will not soon be forgotten. Surf fishing here is some of the best on the coast and large Orange Mouth Corvina, Halibut, Pargo and Grouper are easily caught by walking the shoreline.
World Class surf breaks:
'Mag Bay' will have the surfers stoked on long point breaks that work on both southwest and northwest swells. The swell here wraps in such a way that multiple peaks link up creating rides that can last for minutes and allows the more novice riders multiple take off spots. There is ample opportunity for waves at many other spots including world class spots best accessed by boat.
Come prepared for anything as this eclectic trip will offer you a chance try out any and all equipment you may have. Bring fishing equipment for both inshore and offshore, all your scuba and freedive equipment including underwater cameras. Surfboards will be limited to two per person due to their fragile and bulky nature. Aim to bring your fun-board for the potentially smaller days but you will definitely want a performance board for solid surf.
After we've dropped you in beautiful Loreto your catch will return to San Diego aboard Islander where you'll
have two options:
- You may pick up your fish dockside
- We will facilitate processing services that will
ship your fish directly to you.
